Community Wood Chipping

Reducing Wildfire Risk Together
Hoodland Fire District #74 is proud to partner with AntFarm Youth Services to help residents create and maintain defensible space around their homes. By removing excess brush and woody debris, we can significantly reduce wildfire risk and improve the safety of our neighborhoods.
Why Chipping Matters
Creating defensible space is one of the most important steps homeowners can take to protect their property from wildfire. Removing ladder fuels, thinning brush, and clearing dead or downed branches helps:
- Slow the spread of wildfire
- Reduce flame length and fire intensity
- Improve firefighter access and effectiveness
- Protect homes, neighbors, and our entire community
This program makes it easier and more affordable for residents to dispose of vegetation cleared from their property.
How the Program Works
🚛 AntFarm crews conduct periodic chipping events throughout Hoodland Fire District #74 during the year. Events are scheduled by neighborhood to ensure efficient service.
👉 Preparation Guidelines:
- Place wood piles roadside the day before the scheduled event
- Stack piles neatly with cut ends facing the road
- Piles may be up to 5 feet x 5 feet x 5 feet in size
- Max diameter of individual branches is 9 inches
- Keep piles free of dirt, rocks, metal, and trash
- Only natural woody debris is accepted (no lumber, treated wood, stumps, or construction materials)
Following these guidelines helps crews work quickly and safely while serving as many residents as possible. 🌲
